A Magnificence of Mahler on Wednesday 14th November

There would have to be an increase in Mahler programming to 8 solid hours a day every day for me to even begin to think that there was too much, so it was therefore enjoyable to hear, in the four hours or so that I managed to listen to R3 yesterday, both Kindertotenlieder in Essential Classics and a "whole big symphony" in the evening concert! from 8.30pm.

They are, I believe, able to be heard again via the iplayer, and, in particular the von Otter version of KTL, were both to my ears wonderful performances.

Tying this into another thread, I agree that R3 has copied Cfm in some things: it's bit like all motor manufacturers copying designs and features that work from their competitors. they are bound to and would be silly not to. (It's a different question as to whether they should feel they need to!).

But Cfm would never programme like this Mahler yesterday, which is why so many people still prefer Radio 3.
