I heard HG play it wonderfully under Salonen around 15 years ago - an audience member in the choir seats collapsed at the beginning of the finale so ESP had to ask if there was a doctor in the house.

I was listening to Fleisher/Szell in Beethoven PCs 1/2. last night. The entire set is fantastic, but surely this has to be the greatest recording of the frequently maligned Second Concerto? Fleisher in the interview that I referenced referred to the panache of that recording, and it’s there in spades. This sounds like a confident young man taking in the sights of the big town and enjoying himself. Simply marvelous.
