I didn't know about this change. What about the stuff that was over 50 years when it was reissued but is now under 70 years? Will I have acquired illegal reissues? While I think about it, does this affect items that I may have purchased in the UK and "exported" to France (by carrying them under the channel) and vice versa?

It is not retrospective in effect .

Hence , as I understand it any release before November is fine but after November the copyright period in 70 years.

I wonder if this will mean a reduction in the amount and availability of 'old' but still good-sounding stuff, released on smaller less well-known, or even some specialist labels? I can't imagine that it's exactly music to their ears (!)

I presume this wll also curtail those very helpful people out there who make unreissued LPs available on their websites, or at least restrict them to issues over 70 years old (which means 78s, I suppose). In any case the present laws seem to be ignored by those based in Latin Amercia and Russia.

I have read that Sound Recordings Copyright Extension is a "proposal" which has to be ratified by all the EU Member States by the November deadline. Has this happened yet? What happens if they don't all ratify?

Then the situation will be chaotic, as opposed to the present lucid arrangements.

Did Leonid Kogan record enough with them to justify an Icon set?

André Previn, particularly if there's material relating to Previn as pianist - I have fond memories of his performance on EMI of Ravel Piano Trio with Yong Uck Kin and Ralph Kirschbaum c/w Shostakovich Piano Trio no 1. - did it ever make it to CD, I wonder?

Quite tempting as in this instance I don't have any of the individual recordings.
