That's very kind of you, jonfan! I very rarely use the rather loaded word 'fun' ... but that's exactly how I can describe the time we all
had, recording this wonderful piece (and the other 2 Beethoven works) with the inspirational and irrepressible 'Bob' Levin!
However, I simply can't fathom why ( lack of time maybe?) Mr Burnside didn't mention this and the other very fine HIPP recordings other than
    Die Freitagsakademie.

It was always going to be Perahia or Brendel as that’s where IB’s enthusiasms lay. These BALs are personal choices of the presenters and when they are excellent communicators like DON or IB then their reasoning is always clear. A pity a format like ‘Interpretations on Record’ couldn’t be revived where a speaker had the luxury to compare and contrast for an hour as many recordings of one work that they chose to consider. There were no winners, and therefore no losers.

If all HIPP versions had been included it would been disproportionate in the grand scheme of things

          I don't think 8% is disproportionate, Alison.

Ah, but when they take you closer to the thing itself...
