Listening now to Gerald Tyrwhitt's suite taken from the wonderful masterpiece of a ballet of 1926, written for Diaghilev:

    The Triumph of Neptune

Bazzer Wordsworth conducting the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra (leader Malcolm Stewart)

    EMI CDC 747 668-2

For some reason, long deleted, this recording was resurrected on the Soviet label, Olympia (cannot be bothered to find out the new recording details, but it's all rather bizzare, I'll grant you).

For those who have not their Debrett's to hand, Tyrwhitt took on the title of the Lord Berners on the death of his father.

Pretty good! I should say, courtesy of an EXTREMELY kind forum member!

I'm fortunate enough to have the 1960's 'Karajan Edition' and the sound isn't quite as clear as those CDs but it's still very good with dynamic levels very well presented.

You know, I'm sure my late father, who owned a Grundig open reel machine and took it round the world in a specially made canvas bag, would have loved bed these tapes! As a married man with two small children, he possibly would have coveted these tapes. I wish he was alive to hear them through our Quad system!

And I Love watching the reels go round!

Now, having listened to no. 7, have gone on to no. 6.

          Fantastic!

Be having a large scale theme this week. Having thought about that, might hunt down the Havergal Brian Gothic!

First to come out is Mahler's Symphony No.1. Berliner Philharmoniker, Claudio Abbado.

                      Watch this space!

PS Sorted out the Bluetooth problem. MrsBBM had the bright idea of pulling out the plug from the mains and hey presto!! Bless her!

With this set of Mahler symphonies, I forgot that it went straight into the Symphony no.2(Resurrection)!! I hate it when the companies do this!!
