    Beethoven's 'Pastoral' Symphony.

Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra under William Steinberg.

Recorded 10/11/52 in the Syria Mosque, Pittsburgh.

This is from the William Steinberg EMI box set which has some very interesting looking discs. For me, the attraction is hearing these recordings in ideal sound since my late father had them on MfP Lps and I grew up with them. I can still see the covers in my imagination! Next up will be the 'Emperor' concerto with Rudolph Firkusny.

      Hiya Maestro,

Slighly on the serious side but I love I love these live recording. Haintink and the Staatskapelle are on top form!
With the Semperoper out of action in 2002 from flood damage in Dresden the concert was given at the Kulturpalast.

I always enjoy discovering a new voice (even if it's an old one). Just acquired a marvellous 4CD collection of the Ukrainian mezzo, Zara Dolukhanova on Guild. Many delights including Schumann's Frauenliebe in Russian.

I have this version of the Berio, ts:

                    Must give it another spin.

How were the DSCH quartets the other night?
Indeed, how was the whole roasted cauliflower?

is that CD a recommend , Pulcers? I'm tempted by a used copy ......

Ah the Quartets...yes, loved 3, got distracted during 8, and definitely need to go back to 13.
Fabulous sound, awful cover photo, much to recommend I thought. I suspect I have relied a bit too heavily on the Rubio's complete cycle in that Brilliant Classics box....

as for the Cauliflower, looked pretty, needs a good long cook, went down pretty well, but as always, a second go should improve the finished article.

A night at the opera tomorrow night at Pulcinella Towers, I think......I hope you have gone for a good quality smoked salmon......

Yes, a good CD, if memory serves. Worth a punt at s/h price if you like the Berio.
Plans for tomorrow changed, as neighbours have invited us round for supper (last Christmas here), so we watched the opera and ate the salmon this evening.
Didn't like the production, and not sure that De Niese was right for her part, but a decent way of weathering out the edge of Storm Barbara.

You need to remedy that, then, Bbm.
Janet Baker is especially wonderful in 'It was the winter wild.....'
I find it so moving that I have to ration my listening.
