Just now in the car with my mum - The Very Best of Jethro Tull. Just finished - Stravinsky's Symphonies of Wind Instruments.

      Not entirely different.

One of the best things he wrote I think. In his later years he was a bit distracted by all those pieces that use electronics in (IMO) a not very interesting way, I have the impression writing Dérive 2 must have been quite a relief for him.

            Bach. Brandenburg Concertos 4, 5 & 6

Rheinhard Goebel directing Musica Antiqua, Köln. Another bonkers performance from this source! Phenomenal playing. I took the cd of the first three concerti to our local Hi-Fi dealer yesterday and heard it through a £100k system. It was interesting to watch his jaw drop at the outrageous tempi of the Third Concerto. Sounded unbelievable through such a system with the volume cranked up!

One of my all time favourite lines from any sitcom is an episode of 'Friends' where Phoebe is going through her black book.

Monica "Phoebe, you know Jethro Tull are a band?"

              Phoebe "Yes. Yes they are!"

Someone ought to tell Universal Edition to put the score of it on sale, or at least on special order. I had the score of the seventh orchestral Notation specially ordered.

EDIT: Seems like one can license request it: whatever that means.

Joann Strauss II. Waltzes and Polkas

London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Theodor Guschlbauer.

I'm not a great fan of this music but I came across this CfP cd in a charity shop and remembered I'd had I'd as a youngster. Amazing how it brings back memories.

                          Hubert Parry: Songs of Farewell

Holst The Evening Watch, op.43 No.1
Howells Take Him Earth, for Cherishing
                          Sir John Tavener Funeral Ikos
Sir Hubert Parry Songs of Farewell.
                          Tenebrae, Nigel Short.

Sir Hubert Parry was born this day in 1875. We also mustn't forget the one important fact that with the work by Howells, it was commissioned for the funeral of President John F Kennedy.

Very true - for me it was the same when I rediscoverd a (CfP again) of 'Colin Davis Conducts' - the cover bearing a black and white photo of a very young and good-looking (à la Hollywood!) Colin Davis. I must search out my copy...
