    Ortrud – Katarina Dalayman (soprano)
King Heinrich der Vogler – Falk Struckmann (bass)
King’s Herald – Samuel Youn (baritone)

    Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra/Sir Mark Elder

I'm loving this live concert performance of 'Lohengrin' under Sir Mark Elder! Nylund and Vogt are in especially fine form.

It all seems a very long time ago now but I will never forget it. Imagine Richard Strauss' Don Juan conducted by Rudolf Kempe as the very first sound you ever hear from a full symphony orchestra live in concert! Anyway, I've reproduced the identical programme tonight in recordings made by Kempe. The Bruch was recorded at around the same time as the concert.

      Strauss: Don Juan
      Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
      Rudolf Kempe

      Bruch: Scottish Fantasia
      Kyung Wha Chung (violin)
      Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
      Rudolf Kempe

      [interval]

      Beethoven: Symphony No 4
      Munich Philharmonic Orchestra
      Rudolf Kempe
I'm tempted to add, " ... and it's all been downhill from there". What a wonderful start to a lifetime's musical journey. Anyway, getting in the mood for Sakari Oramo and the BBC Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican next Wednesday in 'Turangalîa':

Messiaen: Des Canyons aux Étoiles ...

      Yvonne Loriod/Ensemble Ars Nova/Marius Constant

Whichever of our resident experts on Messiaen (FHG? Bryn? Richard B? SA?) recommended this recording, thank you. Wonderful.

Yes, I enjoyed it immensely. I'll certainly be playing more of Praetorius's music.

Hear and Now - Radio 3

                Thought it started at 10.30

Not used to my new telly-free schedule!

Great music, I could get used to this every Saturday night

Shame there's no way to record these programmes - that last piece was amazing!

Something for orchestra and tape, I didn't catch the title or composer.

Where can you find the list of works on this programme? Currently there's an excellent piece for small percussion ensemble, but I've no idea who the composer or performers are.
