But of course. The second listed, in fact, though I do also have another disc from the same folk in the OL Medieval & Renaissance box. Tempted to get their third disc (Vol 2) too.

        Outside my budget, unfortunately.

[Between amazon.co.uk marketplace and Oxfam online one can get volumes 2 to 4 inclusive for around £20 including p&p, but I will make do with what I have, pending a possible re-issue of the 4 disc set.]

A shameless copy of Simon Rattle's recent concerts...

          Stravinsky: The Firebird

          [interval]

          Stravinsky: Petrushka

          [interval]

          Stravinsky: The Rite of Spring

          Berliner Philharmoniker
          Bernard Haitink

Incidentally, there don't seem to be that many recordings of these three great ballets from the same conductor/orchestra partnership.

Bach: Musical Offering, etc. The CD rate at the moment. Later I will have a go at burning the 2 channel 96/24 files to and audio DVD.

Szymanowski Violin Sonata in D minor, Op.9(1894)
              Tasmin Little(violin), Piers Lane(piano)

Matthias Pintscher: "with lilies white"; Mark Andre: "woher ... wohin" (Première); György Kurtág: "Petite musique solennelle en hommage à Pierre Boulez 90"; Jonathan Harvey: "... towards a pure land"

Anna-Maria Palii, Sarah Aristidou, Sheva Tehoval, (Sopranos); Vinzenz Löffel (boy soprano)/Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks/
                  Matthias Pintscher (conductor)

I sometimes wonder about the quality of some of Pintscher's music, given his relative prolificness (maybe less so more recently, though) but, although I couldn't always make out the text (partly from Derek Jarman), an interesting listen, making use of spatial elements to good effect

A different side of Leonard Bernstein here this afternoon.

                        Latin American Fiesta
NYPO/Bernstein (one of the Sony Bernstein Century series)

                        Copland: Danzón cubano
                        Copland: El salón México
                        Fernández: Batuque
                        Guarnieri: Dansa brasileira
Villa-Lobos: Bachiana brasileira 5 (Netania Davrath, soprano; Carl Stern, solo cello)
                        Revueltas: Sensemayá
                        Chávez: Sinfonía india

Great 'swing' in the Copland, particularly.

                            Tchaikovsky's String Serenade.

Herbert von Karajan conducting Die Berliner Philharmoniker. This is the 1960's recording and one of my favourite recordings of anything. I love that he really pushes the fiddles to their very limits in the first movement so that even that fabled section sound like they could come unstuck any second! My goodness, it's exciting!!
