'End of the queue destroys the principle behind the Proms'

Apologies if this has been discussed previously but this letter in the Guardian helped explain the immense queue and army of staff wrangling it outside Prom 60. Very different from the long snaking single line of yore, which seemed to take care of itself with almost nonchalant ease.
It seems a sad state of affairs, and a weasely sort of profiteering, but as this other article suggests, paying to jump queues is becoming the norm: https://www.theguardian.com/commenti...access-dunkirk

There was discussion of this in the last couple of days here - from this post onwards - should we move these to the other thread?

        I think so.

Another point of view here https://www.theguardian.com/music/20...b-gdnclassical (which is basically what teamsaint said on the other thread, iirc)
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
