Check Celi's commentary at 15 mins onwards ............

What he says really resonates with me.

It's fascinating to hear how he rehearses - I hadn't seen that broadcast before but there's some really interesting stuff as an appendix to his Munich CD of Bruckner 9.

And then of course there's this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plpqb4jqHkU

            Brilliant programme, thanks for posting!

Can't help wondering if our Tony was one of the errant horn players (47'54" et seq.)
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
            Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

              Hello Cali!
No, I never ( to my regret) played for 'Celi'!
I was 1st horn of the LSO (sharing the post with the wonderful DAVID GRAY) from 1969 to 1973.

Wasn't he first horn on Barbirolli's 'Heldenleben' recording with the wonderful John Georgiadis playing the solo violin part?

Excellent! Was that Richard Hickox in the suit, helping Sergui off the stage?

I've seen the clip with the absent Horns, but can't remember anything else. I loved the way he worked with the choir (the women looked as if they adored him - and looked most downhearted when they thought they'd let him down) and the soloists; and that "Tempo!! What's the matter with you?!" to the accompanist, who was later rewarded with his own applause and the "Happy Birthday" hug. Deeply, deeply impressed with the attention to detail; not least getting the Basses to come in and out of the texture; and the same sort of work with the Tenors; and ... and ...

Many, many thanks to Tarentella for posting the link

Yes - mentioned in the credits as the Music Director of the LSO Chorus.

I've thoroughly enjoying watching Sergiu myself. It's fabulous that all these things are now at the tip of the fingers via the internet!!

And that WAS Richard Hickox!! Also much missed!
