    Ivry Gitlis, 1922 - 2020

Sad to read the news of this very individual violinist's passing today. A player of great charisma and charm, sometimes quirkily idiosyncratic, occasionally wilful, never dull. He leaves a large discography and was performing well into his nineties, with Martha Argerich, no less, just a couple of years ago. I had the privilege of playing for a couple of the masterclasses he gave, ten or fifteen years ago, unforgettable occasions both for the participants and the audience.

A very fine musician. A considerble loss, indeed.

Sad news and with the death of Ida Haendel this year too it marks the passing of the last of the great individual violinists who were performing in the 1940s and 1950s I think.
