This morning's (20/9/22) Through theNight included a fine Fourth from Eugen Jochum and the Concertgebouw, both of them having 'form' with this composer. I mention it if only because a complete Bruckner symphony isn't usual fare on this programme. In my experience whenhis name occurs its usually a motet, such as 'Os Justi'.
Bruckner 4 on TTN

Standard thread hijack, as is bsp's wont, but a question for Forumites: has anyone given the recent harmonia mundi recording of Bruckner 4 with Anima Eterna Brugge and Pablo Heras-Casado a listen?
For their first collaboration on harmonia mundi, Pablo Heras-Casado and Anima Eterna explore the world of Bruckner. The first instalment in this series is his tremendous Symphony no.4. An apotheosis of architectural rigour and poetry, this cathedral in sound, thanks to the unique sonorities of the period instruments played by the Bruges orchestra, regains its lightness and elegance in dazzling orchestral colours!
Hurwitz roasted this recording on his YT channel, and a subset of his cult of followers on YT parroted his loathing of this recording (as cults do). While Hurwitz can be extremely abrasive, his opinions are well-informed for all that, whether I agree or disagree with them. So I was half-expecting not to like this recording at all. To my surprise, I enjoyed it very much. (I wouldn't dare post this there, since the cult would troll-rate me down immediately.) I found PH-C's reading quite light on its feet, and a total breath of fresh air. Of course, my own perspective is warped and perhaps not fully to be trusted, because by my own admission, I'm not a Bruckner fan at all.
Anyway, just seeing if anyone had any thoughts on this recording, or indeed, any other recent Bruckner 4 recordings / experiences.

I only have a tangential thought to offer. Quite a few years ago the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra came to Köln and did a few concerts. One had Beethoven 3 conducted by von der Goltz, which was not particularly satisfying. Another had Beethoven 8, conducted by Heras-Casado, which was superb. So I am far from surprised and will give this a sample as soon as I get a chance. (Also not really a Bruckner fan, at least not currently.)
