    Service with a Smile

    Sat 18 April
    10pm - New Music Show

For those of a musical Bent...

Tom Service with an eclectic playliszt of new sounds, from the multi-layered electro-acoustic music of New York sound artist Fred Szymansky to the interlocking textures of Lithuanian-born Egidija Medeksaite. Plus the premiere performance of a major orchestral work by Bent Sorensen.

Bent Sørensen: His second symphony very good, IMHO. He took the strings into some undiscovered byways with novel sounds. I've been listening to Haydn's early symphonies, and interesting to compare. Of course, Haydn was aiming at a different audience, but still very much in common - heavy reliance on strings. But at least Sørensen used trumpets occasionally - totally lacking in Haydn, so far as I can make out.
