Not sure if its available on the net but I've just stumbled upon the Jazz Library on Sun Ra from June 2007*. Alyn and Brian Morton. An excellent and sympathetic overview of Ra and what he was about.

      BN.

On a Sony fx C90 cassette which I guess is now worth at least €500 to REAL jazz enthusiasts....at least...or to one of our fine jazz universities. "Ra Ra!" as we say at Oxbridge balls.

Jez Nelson presents 'Travelling The Spaceways:The Cult of Sun Ra' on Radio 4(19 June, 11.30am)

He'd get his band up at 4am for 12-hour rehearsals. He went on a 25-year world tour. And he claimed he was an angel from outer space. Jez Nelson on the remarkable life, beautiful music and extra-terrestrial adventures of Sun Ra

This is advertised as including an interview with Ra from just before his death. But Radio 4? at 11.30 am??? It would never have occurred to me to spot this, so many thanks, JR!

Thanks for that. 128kbps HE-AAC. Not HD Sound, but not that bad, either.

                  Unquestionably a Basquet case!

I'm no fan of Gilles Peterson - I find him v irritating, but he's a Ra Man and he devoted his 6 music show to Sun Ra on Saturday.

Gilles celebrates the centenary of iconic bandleader and composer Sun Ra.

The one time I heard Sun Ra being interviewed on air, the interviewer began:

" Ahhhh ... You are not from this planet are you, Mr. Sun Ra? "
