Bare Leos promoted in unwelcome takeover

With Alyn shipped off and no Jay to Zee, I can do a quick disposal job on this week's jazz, for reasons explained in the thread title.

    Sat 16 Feb
    12 midnight - Geoffrey Smith's Jazz

Geoffrey Smith celebrates tenor saxophonist Lester Young (1909-59).

This week's programme on Prez looks at his 1940s work. It turns out he was one year younger than my dad!

Geoffrey Smith's Jazz - a weekly sequence exploring what makes great jazz great music

    Sun 17 Feb
    11pm - Jacob Collier's Music Room
    3/3 Melody

Jacob Collier explores music's universal language. He concludes with melody.

In dealing with harmony in last week's programme, Mr Collier overfilled the pallette and left me a bit confused. He was better the previous week on rhythm, I thought. And he omitted atonality!

    Mon 18 Feb
    11pm - Jazz Now

Soweto Kinch presents another chance to hear a concert given last May by Evan Parker.

Next week's offering features one of the house faves, Matana Roberts, with our very own Alex Hawkins and other(s). This surely is what the programme should be about. Red ring it on the calendar.

The trail for Geoffrey Smith's Lester profile tonight, played on R3 at about 7.30am this morning (in addition to a flock of geese outside my window, "taking off") is wonderful.

Lester's "Afternoon of a Basie-ite". And that great piano? "Johnny Guarnieri". Especially him.

Evan Parker - not unpleasant, but sorry, just don't get it - just plain wierd!

There was no edition of JRR on the 12th Feb because of the Berlioz weekend.

Perhaps he offended and was arrested by the Jazz Police and has been sent to Australia

More seriously I think it is just an S_A shorthand for saying JRR has been consigned to oblivion for the week by the weekend's Berliozfest.
