      Thus emboldened it is I who shall give an I ….

      What I connects:

      an instrumentalist whose work contributed to collective melos;
      a composer whose popularity was blemished by something to do with his car;
      and a poet and composer whose career was blighted by experiences with gas?

            I think Norris suspects everyone except Blanche, and he may be in two minds about her.

                Possibly the two minds are by way of compensation for the fact that he has only one facial expression...

                        ... as in d'Aranyi, the violinist with whom every composer who met her fell in love? Including Robert Schumann, who didn't let a little thing like being dead for 80 years stop him!

                        But why only "3 composers"?

                            Might Mr Roll Morton also be in the mix?!
