Pinching the Caroline lead, are we talking Caroline Unser, an early performer of the Contralto role in Beethoven 9/4? Died 1877, the year Siegfried was completed/performed. The letters?

you'll have to translate happiness into French

(I thought you'd start with the whole-tone prelude)

                            .. et voila:

Debussy: Voiles (Preludes, Book 1, #2)
                            Faure: Voiles de Bonheure
Simon Bainbridge: Voiles for unaccompanied* Bassoon.

EDIT: Not "unaccompanied"! "With small ensemble".
