    Midnight inspiration, Flay... spot on.

All three scored works to include that rather lovely-sounding instrument - which seems to have been phased out in favour of the clarinet by the end of the 18th C.

There are some good chalumeau sounds in the Hyperion recording of Vivaldi's 'Juditha Triumphans' which I have.

You got D next letter, man

Why thank you, Calibs. I worked it out from this: http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=P...oncini&f=false

where there are references to them all, and that Joseph l wrote an aria with chalumeau obbligato.

An excellent challenge if I may say. I'll sleep on the D if that's OK

Sounds like a good plan. Hope you don't have any cheese-induced nightmares about being in a cage with a randy baboon.... (Forgive cross-thread reference!)

No, folks, neither Charlemagne nor Candle (would love to know your thought process behind the latter, Don).

It's just that Buonocini always brings to mind:

          Some declare that Buonocini
Compared to Handel is a ninny:
Others say that to him Handel
Is not fit to hold a candle.

Seemed obvious to me (disregarding all the rest of the question...)

No nightmares last night, fortunately, but sorry the D has taken so long. Sometime you get an idea and try to develop it but it just doesn't work out, so you have to go back and choose something else.

Let's have from you a D that links:

            A composer’s potty connection
A conductor who made suite revelations, sourly received by others
            The inspiration for a Prom
            Pacta sunt servanda !!!

I'm glad you didn't do a rhyme for the other composer!

By the way Cal, you say my clues are complex?

Sorry, but no. Keep trying, too early for clues. I hope the Prom connection was not too childish.

Are we talking RAH Prom or school prom?

Come on cloughie, you can do this. Keep on with the themed Prom clue and what I've already said about it.... Give your ideas time to develop, the best will fit, the others will die off.

Of course there is always Delibes La (Sweet and Sour) Source Suite!

Is the D in the counductor and is it a surname or forename?

Very pretty frock by the way!
