          Nice question, Mercs.

          I will endeavour to maintain a tiggerish tempo, as requested. But give me a little time...

            See my wink at #18368 but was dashing out into the beastly mud and oomska.
            "...the isle is full of noises,
            Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
            Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
            Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

              What B links:

              - the opening scene of an opera concerned with gold;
              - some lines missing from an aleatoric essay;
              - a diminutive baritone from Germany?

                  Too wet. I'm a fair(ish) weather cyclist. Driving rain and wind make it too unpleasant/dangerous. Plus got meetings en route home and need to be suited and booted...

                        Sorry, Cloughie, no... Assume you were thinking of the Barber of Seville and Samuel Barber's Two Essays?

                        However, the essay is of the musical variety. At my junior school they were called compositions.

                            You've probably nibbled on that little red herring enough by now. No, not by Wagner.

                              if that isn't Thomas Q I'm back to square one

                              was that herring nibbling a clue?

                                No, it wasn't. I was just informing you, without any inference, that it was a red herring.

                                Quasthoff was another deliberate diversionary tactic.

                                Now I can only I suggest you clear your mind and go back to square one...
