I've always said it vints - you are a genius - many thanks. Should help me play by the rules/laws.

Me, too! I bumped into David Hockney (quite literally, I was reading the programme book, he was chatting to others and we collided). I remember thinking to myself, "He's cool; he's used to Californian generosity of spirit, don't embarrass yourself and him by saying something idiotic." So I was horrified to hear, coming from my own mouth, a sound like a whooppee cushion vaguely articulating the class expression "Whoops-a-daisy!" He didn't look impressed.

Yes thanks vinsanto I was about to post that I've never really understood the search facility either, and then along comes out scholarly saviour

As to rules / laws - I think it was established early on that no one minds duplications, on the metaphorical basis that there are many ways to skin a cat.

Many's the time I've heard Dave recount that story! So it was you!!

I once had the same experience with Harold Pinter. He didn't just look not impressed, rather that I was something he had omitted to scrape off his shoe. Didn't say much though. Typical

Please find the concertante link between this B and a starry canticle, some extreme Wagner and an apparently noisy piece by a centenarian...

Yes the very thought of {scb + guess} does not compute, Captain

Started with Tintinnabulation, composed by Elliott Carter in his 100th year. Then found other things that seemed to fit the other clues (e.g. Wagner Carrilho playing bongos on X-factor).

Brill ! You are right about Carter, of course: comfortably a centenarian now though he wasn't quite when he wrote the piece you're looking for.

                          Soundings ? (written for Barenboim)

also Barenboim premiered Astral Canticle by Augusta Read Thomas, and was the first to conduct Wagner in Israel.

Oh you're good, scb, you're very good

Yes: Soundings and Astral Canticle were both dedicated to our B, Mr Barenboim, Mr Topical of the past week.

But for the third element: wrong Wagner

You're after a third piece dedicated to DB

Yes, three concertante pieces dedicated to Barenboim:

Astral Canticle - Augusta Read Thomas
Extremity of Sky - Melinda Wagner
                                Soundings - Elliott Carter

Your turn to go to C
