Why thank you. The eclectic work and titles of Mr Martinu are well-adapted to the composition of AA questions

      N for Northo
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

          Here's my 'N':
From the top: George Grossmith, Peter Pears, Giovani Zenatello and Mary Martin.

            Nellie ?

... Farren or Bromley appearing with George Grossmith [in what I'm not sure]
... Carson, a colleague of Pears in the English Singers
... Melba appearing with Zenatello [in what I'm not sure]
the first Nellie Forbush in South Pacific was Mary Martin

EDIT - second thoughts, that can't be right if they're supposed to be in chronological order
unless it's a bit of wordplay - 'top' meaning circus - Nellie the elephant etc.

As far as the overall link goes, I'm afraid it's a case of 'Not on your Nellie', but Mary Martin's role in South Pacific is relevant.

Forbush is [apparently] a place in North Carolina - sorry, I'm guessing wildly

anything to do with Zenatello being the first Pinkerton ?

Ooh, I've seen that film! But I'm not sure the answer is that simple, as applied to the two other clues?

Well, at Cirque d'Hiver (Winter Circus) I think Trapeze is the sort of film to watch late Sunday on a Winter afternoon after a satisfying roast dinner and a good bottle of Burgandy and never mind the washing up, don't you? With possibly some good chocolate. But, that is not the answer! Double-barreled Apache, etc., I have no idea.
