Perfection, Angel! Thank you for such a meticulous Anna-summary so late!

The only thing I'd add is that in myth, Silenus was the leader of the satyrs. (One has to make these things a little oblique - my first version just said 'stars' and 'satyrs'... copying the puzzle word for word into google led to about 20 results, all highlighting "Oriana" ! Too easy, I thought!)

Not much sign of life yet. Too close an association with Silenus all round last night ?

Here also but not yet able to focus on the P...

Sometimes these days AA doesn't move with the helter-skelter speed of early 2011! Hang on in there! There are people out there cogitating furiously!

Stumped. Angle's first said "Hal's Brigade" before he changed it. That only led me to a battle in the Vietnamese War. Good King Hal led nowhere either, nor did Poor Hal ..... so I don't know where to start looking.

Yup me too, been puzzling on and off this afternoon. One of my google searches had as its No 1 result, mercia's post #26781 !!

Second the motion: clue please, Angle!

Not sure how the Neil Young fits, I was vaguely thinking Paul Simon until I realised it was "You can call me Al" not Hal!! But Angle's teasers are usually Strictly Classical. I think I'll have to call it a day and check in a lot later.
(I know Angle is a late riser, do we have to wait for sunset and remove all mirrors?)

Hmm: Blind alleys we should not frequent....: In 1963 Hal Borne composed most of the songs for the infamous first topless mainstream movie Promises! Promises!

Phew. Back. Sorry to have been so long.

P is a composer and two of the works referred to in the clues are operas.

And pay no attention to "Hal's Brigade" - that was an error. Search instead for a European "Poor Hal".
