I doubt if Joseph Schalk hung around with a Jose.

Cut us some slack here, please, cloughie. Is Jose a full name or an abbreviation?

Jose is a surname. Romantic needs translation for the title of a piece of music.

I"m afraid I've got nowhere with this! Need to see what fresh insights the morrow brings...

I got as far as José José, the most successful Latin American singer (so wiki tells me) One of his big hits was Romantica. But cloughie says Jose, surname, has no accent. So I have no idea. Just saying I did have a go!

                  Jose is Cornish not Latin.

That's the boy and the place - they also have a decent brass band.

                      Gives us the details Flay.

Having been round the world from Mexico to Spain to Africa, I find myself in Cornwall!

Richard J. Jose, countertenor born June 5th 1862 in Lanner, Cornwall, but lived in America. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c40Zhl6o3xE

Joseph Lanner (12 April 1801 – 14 April 1843) an Austrian composer: Die Romantiker Waltz, Op. 167

I assume the latter covers two of the three clues?

I would have been there sooner had I been more persistent. Knowing that cloughie likes his choral music, before first light this morning I was googling Jose against soprano, tenor, baritone and bass. Then I gave up! Had I put countertenor...
