Could it be Keith - there was certainly someone of high naval status of that name.

...and maybe the Hearse Concerto is to do with Keith Emerson.

          Keith Moon frequented Tramps nightclub.

Go for it Cloughie! I had 'Karl' in my mind last night but lacked the brain-cells to make it work!
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Karl Amadeus Hartmann Concerto Funebre for V & O
Ziehrer! Die Landstreicher ("The Tramps") is an operetta

I think the other might be Karl Jenkins but I'm not sure

Absolutely superb Inspector Clough - we also have in the operetta line Der Vice-Admiral by Carl (Karl) Millocker.

Wouldn't have dared set Karl Jenkins ..................

I'm delighted at last to have solve one of your sets, even if I needed a very strong nudge.
Funny thing about Karl Jenkins - I've always thought of him purveying semi-classical CFM stuff - who'd have thought he was in Soft Machine!

Do any of 'a witch, a ghost and a lovely pond' need to be translated into another language for us to get the answer, cloughie?
