yes I think so, as would everyone here have been!

ronnie billy al sam did it....

Just tried again, don't even need the 'x'... look:

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I think you slightly scuppered yourself by generously giving four names rather than the conventional three elements to the question. I tried just 'ronnie billy sam' and no helpful X sprang to view. I suppose with 4, you materially increase the chances of that Xanadu combo popping up.

Anyway, you made your W pretty google-proof!

for me Xanadu would have to be Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick, Titch and possibly Olivia, ELO or Jeff.

'Mornin' all. A straightforward puzzle to ease us into Tuesday:

Which Z was first to write a Blanik, a Sarka, a Water Goblin and an Othello?

Are you Fibbing? Or would you care to supply the Lutoslaw?

EDIT: No clue in the last phrase - just wanted a change from "coleslaw" )

A complete guess, ferney - so no Lutoslaw () available yet

The truth is in there somewhere - but ammy's A I think as I'm out for a while and I goal-poached him anyway.

I'll await confirmation from ferney before moving to an A if that's warranted

                                ferney confirms!

Zdenek (hence "first") Fibich, composer of two operas (Blanik and Sarka (which I think was about an otter?), a melodrama, The Water Goblin and a Symphonic Poem Othello. Details on Cloughie's link.

                                Consider yourself warranted, Amico!
