        I should have had the courage of my convictions! Cracking work by ferney to pounce upon the answers!
        "...the isle is full of noises,
        Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
        Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

            p.s. To clarify about: George crystallised a great work from his noted programmes

            George Grove:
            When responsible for the regular orchestral concerts at the Crystal Palace, he wrote a series of programme notes from which eventually grew his musical dictionary

                    Oliphant = elephant

                    No relation to our favourite fellow Soorjo Alexander William Langobard Oliphant Chuckerbutty

                    Edit: * Actually he wrote a version of words to it

                        The answer is Josef Matthias Hauer: inventor of the twelve tone row. Only he left it at that or thereabouts. He wrote lots of Zwölftonspiele, very short works, I believe he
                        even paid some people with them (trifles, the baker the postman etc).

                        Wrote some works : Die schwarze Spinne a Singspiel, Salambo an opera. Hermann Scherchen conducted the premieres of some of his works. Not sure what "changes" is about - did he rewrite a few bits?

                          - premiered by Otto Klemperer

                          Salambo an opera.
                          posthumously premiered by Michael Gielen.

                          One of the works Scherchen premiered was the Cantata Wandlungen - which can be translated as "changes".

                          I say! A perfect hit. Up to you to maintain your I standard.
