          One of those composers who suffers from "one famous work" syndrome I guess.

              He wrote an opera Volpone 1953 to mixed reviews,[46] and music for a film called The Pride and the Passion.

              Symphony nr 6 After Delacroix.

              Thanks for this Caliban, I really should listen to some more of his music!

              I'll have a little snooze on the B (bees do you know sometimes, on flowers ), but I'll come up with something tomorrow.

                    I am well thank you Caliban. My parents at the moment are taking up a lot of my time, no live concerts alas, but I have been able to catch up on listening to most of the Proms.

                      We've not done awfully well at this, have we...?!

                      The whirl of controversy that was 'the Proms' now subsiding, time for the thinking cap again.

                      Swift first thought: Barcarolle? Venetian passages of music... is there a Barcarolle setting words about a Bella Notte or similar? And Offenbach provides a Parisien connection...

                      But I've a feeling it's not that easy...

                                Gosh AA lives! I was a few days without internet as well.

                                Caliban, Barcarolle is correct!

                                The beautiful night refers to the the Barcarolle in Offenbach's Tales of Hoffman "Belle nuit, รด nuit d'amour" as opposed to the original Elves' song in Die Rheinnixen.

                                The Barcarolle pops up at midnight in Paris and in another Venetian Passage.........
