      I don't mind setting a K mercia

So Janacek's Sinfonietta was used for a gymnastics festival - was it the same one for his Music for club-swinging exercises?

But I still don't see an obvious link with blade and crown, perhaps others can?

I have found "blade" as in "Knife-Edge" and "crown" as in "Crown Court".

Terribly sorry for the delay. Local area broadband has crashed so I have had to wait until I could get out to find a 3G signal. It's pretty poor around here

Yes Subby. ELP just about killed the Sinphonietta opening theme in their Knife Edge LP. Another theme was used in the series Crown Court.

            Here's a Knockout

A K to connect Arabian nights, 17 nectarines (or bottles of champagne) and a white donkey.

Ibert perhaps? That takes me back: Le petit âne blanc - all those daunting sharps.

We're onto K, Flay so not Ibert.

Way in is Arabian nights, the other two probably have to be googled - the K is not a composer!

i don't know if "knockout" was an extra clue, but googling has found me a music venue in Safed (not sure where that is) called The Khan White Donkey - and I can think of a pugilist named Khan

                  ????

I didn't mean it as the answer... I was wondering if there was a connection, that's all.

Rimsky, of Koursakov! (Ravel & Gustav Mahler - yeah, but don't forget Fats Waller... )
