L'Enfant et les sortileges is subtitled "A Lyric Fantasy"
Sibelius wrote a Valse Lyrique in 1920 as part of his Three Pieces for Orchestra
And I am guessing that Offenbach had works performed at Lyric Theatre...?

he was the director of a theatre with an alternative name circa 1872

Good question mercia. A quick M perhaps.

                What M links:

                - 1st movement of Beethoven's C sharp minor quartet, op.131
                - Berio's "Ritirata Notturna di Madrid de Boccherini"
                - Sibelius' "Tapiola"

                ?

The "M" is not a person, but rather a thing...

Is it too early for another clue?

Musically, all of the stated pieces have something in common. And the musical something begins with M.

forgive a dumb question, but is this thing unique to these three works?
