    I've been messing around with Mefistofele, thinking that you'd chosen Arrigo Boito, Verdi's librettist who also composed. I know that his best known Opera is stuffed with Aves and Salves but even its original, heavenly length of five hours didn't include a stabat mater. And.. dammit... his birthplace lies in Veneto.

      Busoni is from Tuscany and wrote a stabat mater but I don't know about the rest, not really 'highly regarded' for this part of his repertoire, though I hold him in high regard in general.

                  But... it was a good teaching tool!

                  I learned : Empoli's in Tuscany
                  Busoni's appreticeship was extensive, thorough and, surprisingly, saturated with religious fervour.

                  Thanks.

                          Good luck, Hedgie!

                          Meanwhile, a D:

                          that connects:

                          A song needing three voices that conjures a scarf; watch out!
                          A work premiered by Klemperer that may well be the composer's response to scorn from a fellow composer;
                          A song for Ds: their band includes a broken consort.

                            Is the band the D and/or the song?

                              You need :
                              The D (person) in a song title
                              The D (person) forms the 2nd work's title
                              and a lyric written for a set of Ds who sing and accompany themselves using instruments that comprise a broken consort
                              in two cases , I've used an English translation
                              I hope that helps, Anton.

                                Could just about make a case for Diana on this, but I'm also pretty sure this isn't the answer. But can't pass up the opportunity to post this
