Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

      Goya?
Granados was inspired by Goya and composed The Maiden and the Nightingale (so Composer of the Week informed us!)
Goya painted about the 3rd May 1808 which was Spanish resistance to Napleon and also painted Love & Death

Happy Easter, Anna! You got it... But which G are you going to plump for?

Clue: I was thinking more specifically about "Love and Death" as a title...

Either way, start working on your Haitch!!

I'm not really sure I deserve the G, getting Goya and Granados so mixed up, so does someone want to set the H?

No no... it was Granados I was thinking about... The answers were:

                1. Love and death (El amor y la muerte) - one of the movements of Granados's piano set Goyescas
                2. Yes - the painting by Goya
                3. Yes - the Nightingale from another of the Goyescas pieces: The Maiden and the Nightingale (La maja y el ruiseñor)

Where are you Anna? It's certainly your H!!!

I was waiting for you Caliban! OK, this is a quick and very easy H

An comic opera based on a French novel, conducted by the composer at the premiere
A father and son with whom you might be in with a winning chance
Something which can be smokey or salty or, entirely inedible or designed to confuse

Honestly rubbers, you are so quick off the mark! Absolutely correct and the inedible was Herring Gull. Mind you, it was ridiculously easy

I was, as a clue to Albert H. going to post "Wake me early Mother Dear ...." but that was too obvious. Speaking of waking early, I had promised myself a lie-in but was woken at 7am by a hot air balloon taking off!

It's not always a good thing, it's got me into some sticky situations, I fear

I will be less hasty with producing an I
