This thread has definitely gone strange today, and I don't think it's just my Gewurztraminer hangover... (2 bottles between 2 with a client at lunchtime... Alsace, with Chinese dim sum )... The Galahad of the Forum, amateur, and your humble uncouth Caliban, fused together in the overheated crucible of Rubbers's mind ; and Rubbers himself and Mercia, locked in their intense, question smashing folie-à-deux - indeed, maybe à-trois given the shadowy figure of hercule standing behind Mercia....

Where is it all going to end (as 6000 replies are now well under the belt, and 60,000 views not far away...)?!?!

        Love that line, Caliban.

Mind you, being married to The Really Useful Dook, she'd cope with a fair bit of whisking, I'd imagine.

And the Royal Marines are reputed to be the best whiskers in the business!

        The cat's whiskers in fact

Where did this Alsatian dim summing take place, Caliban? Certainly not the Wonky in Wardour Steet whose greeting is just one word ... UPSTAIRS!!

Yes, there has been a certain sense of hysteria here today, and a lot of talking in class, too. And - so many simply refuse to put up their hands before answering or asking questions.

I like your Countess of Wessex quote very much, Caliban. I am still puzzling over a headline in the BBC website this week: "LIVE: Bin Laden Dead". Usage isn't what it used to be at all.

And on top of all that, and having managed to answer only two of the elements in mercia's poser, I have to set the M. I have to do this because in desperation, I think, poor mercia answered the other two elements himself and vanished. Now, every time I try to 'get on with it', as Nat Mills used to say, the phone rings.

I am disjunct and it could be a little while I get back with the M

What M connects remote conversation, spiritualism and diplomacy?

Yes, Ofcachap. I think I just managed to get two in there somewhere. They must have been having a day off from retirement but it's good fun.

I hope that someone solves the M before I go to bed otherwise it means another early start - not good.

Well, I am a simple soul, all bedecked in me dimity smocks with wheatshears in me bonnet, but I love this thread. Also, I got a few answers and set a few answers since I joined this happy band of nee'er do wells.

So, group hug anyone? It's only a game and none of us are Nick Clegg

Cheers Caliban - when I was about 13, my father asked me what women I found beautiful and I think I severely rattled him by counting off Margaret Rutherford, Athene Syler and Edith Evans in quick succession

My bro aged 11 meanwhile was listing Ursula Andress, Alexandra Bastedo and Diana Rigg, much to Dad's relief

Anyone know how I could alter the pic so Mags is looking to the right rather than to the left?
