Liszt dedicated his First Piano Concerto to Henry Litolff, whose work he greatly admired
Litolff eloped with Elisabeth Etherington to Gretna Green
Litolff wrote two operas : Robespierre, Op. 55 and Die Girondisten, Op. 80. Robepierre's idealism was regarded as incorruptible.

good grief, that was quick Angle. are you paying sufficient attention to the Mahler?

I have Robespierre being known as "The Incorruptible" but I'm sure you know far more about it than I

Renew the page, mercia. I edited it and corrected myself. Mahler got in the way of clear thought and reading.

I had no idea that Litolff ran away to Gretna - what extraordinary things you know.

It must be hellish working under all those lights anyway.

Here's an easy M, all the same person:

Entered the Paris conservatoire with Jose Iturbi
A work has been played at the Proms by Stephen Hough
A Macmillan (not Harold) ballet was created from some of his work in 1955

oh dear, I've just remembered that the soprano in the weird dress goes very slightly awry in the closing pages
... and she looks as if it was a bad hair day, too

none taken, mercia, but I have to leave early in the morning and shall not return until mid-evening. I shall try to find a remote connection somewhere.

                Have a good day.

Almost irresistible to use the old line: "last time I saw a sample like that, the whole herd had to be put down"....

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Excellent, Ofca. I am delighted to see you back among us, especially as it is now your turn to set the N.

                          Best wishes

Stephen Hough played 'Scènes d'enfants No. 5 - Jeunes Filles au jardin' at the Proms. The music used for the 1955 ballet was 'The House of Birds'.
Which adjective beginning with N connects performers associated with (a) a repeated colour, (b) an unhappy start to the working week and (c) a group of teenagers on top of a hill?
