Full marks, Ofca, for C. More comebacks than Frank Sinatra, that one!

I fear, Anna, that I for one must decline any invitation to act as archivist, due to my rather irregular online habits...

3 letters in 2 days though.

Thank you - from (I think I can say) all of us!

        Now for 'D'. (One-word answer).
Why might The Day The Music Died put one in mind of a famous aria and a No. 2 UK single?

          Ofca,

Would a backward nod be inappropriate?

EDIT:I can see where you're coming from, but sadly the answer is 'yes' (i.e. it would be inappropriate)
However, were you to lengthen your backward nod.....

Is the question too difficult, or is it just that nobody's playing?

Patience is a virtue Ofca. I don't think it's that nobody's playing but it is Friday night .......... and it's been a hard week (for some) I expect it'll be solved in the morning, don't fret about it.

                      Buddy Holly
                      Ritchie Valens

Bingo! Would you care to elucidate? (Anna - not impatient, or fretting, as such, it's just that we're off on a 5-day break on Sunday morning and I'd like to see it solved, and one's never quite sure whether one's question is as straightforward as one likes to think it is. In any case, it looks as though antongould has cracked it. I'll check back at full- and half-time during the France v. New Zealand game).

Ritchie Valens had a single of that name.
The ubiquitous 10cc reached, I think No.2 with their Donna
And I'm stuck on the aria but Mercia will know

                            the aria
la donna e mobile from Rigoletto, I guess
which I'm sure you know AG

Ofca, I know you weren't really fretting but on setting a relatively easy question it somehow heightens latent feelings of inferiority if no-one responds! Where are you off to on your break, is it Wales again? (Watching the match, what's happened to France - Caliban won't be happy!)
