Yes, Percy is a herring, he is not the G
Highgate and Betjeman are indeed clues to one G

is "urging others to run" - Run Rabbit Run by Noel Gay (continuing the Gay theme)?

Hurrah! Yes, John Gay, do you know his work mercia? Absolutely beautiful isn't it?

So, are you going to fill in the other two? I know you don't need further clues ....

mercia, you altered your other posting after I'd quoted it, therefore I hadn't seen you had added:

Noel Gay 'Run Rabbit Run' (the other two songs don't really matter, you got the name)
            to John Gay the photographer

Yes, Duckie, the word is GAY

So, how does Percy fit in with his nutshell?

oh, I thought I'd abandoned Percy as a red herring

"Gay but Wistful" from the suite "In a Nutshell" ?

YES!! Sorry if I misled, Percy was a herring because the G wasn't Grainger but the 2nd Suite is in fact the G 'Gay but Wistful'

The other two songs in the clue by Noel Gay were 'Lambeth Walk' and 'The Sun has got his Hat on', lyrics by Ralph Butler (I met RB's grandson while I was down in Sussex)

Well done mercia A Trio of Gays!

What a good memory you have mercia, yes we played petanque!! No, nothing more to get, just the three elements which were all the word Gay. I could have substituted Beggars Opera for the photographer John Gay of course, but thought that would make it too easy!

But where were you Heart Face, and where was Ams when the subject was Gay? Not sure if this is my return or just a brief Guest Appearance

Rubbers! Gosh, your endless sudden popping up is, in many ways, terribly exciting! Does it give others a certain frisson knowing that His Lordship is observing us as we play merrily?

'Tis only a sporadic foray. I was desperate to join in the Gay festivities but stayed my hand while Mercia finished it off, as it were.

I have an H forming as we speak, if you'd like...
