    So now for your "Y"
    OH but Y???

Mercia solved it with jaw-dropping aplomb with his Devo-MaX.... I feel it should be mercia's!

OK rather hastily concocted as I have to step into a phone box shortly and change into a lawyer... but here goes:

In this country, Y connects three musicians: one fell out with a D over a 13; one had a special relationship with a 330; one recorded a rare mix of Chopin and Rachmaninov.

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.

Yevgeny Mravinsky refused to conduct Shostakovitch 13; Yevgeny Brakhman has played/recorded Mozart's Piano Sonata K330; and I'm guessing the third Yevgeny might be Kissin.

Ah ha! Norfs: you have the Y and the first Yevgeny

Never heard of Brakhman and wasn't thinking of musical numbers with the 330... I said in the clue "a 330" rather than K330. But maybe that would be better as A 330... (bijou clue-ette there )

And no, not Kissin. Right instrument though.

I have to go offline for an hour or so... Will return to see if the remaining Yevgenys have been mopped up, but in any event, the Z/A is yours, my dear Norfolk Born

I suppose Maestro Svetlanov could be involved....

..aha! The first Aeroflot A330 airbus was named after Yevgeny Svetlanov..and the pianist might be Yevgeny Sudbin?

As I have an 'A' ready, I'll take the liberty of acepting caliban's kind offer:
Which 'A' gave us: two slow movements; a prophetic newspaper columnist; a seasonal greeting; and a repeated nuptial commitment?

                      Bingo!! Clean sweep

Final detail: Yevgeny Sudbin has produced a stunning recording of Rachmaninov's little-known Variations on a theme by Chopin. Worth hearing!!

See the 'Final detail' addition to my earlier posting: the Rachmaninov 'Chopin Variations' Op 22 is rather a rarity I think. Nonetheless gorgeous

Sorry you missed out after generously gifting the Y !
