I did consider Macca's earlier Maxwell's Silver Hammer before deciding against.

    Here "stones" is a synonym.

Did Maxwell, the scientist, perhaps have stones in the way that Napier had his bones?

We'll have none of that behaviour in this class, thank you.

And nobody's going home until I know who put the drawing pin on my seat!

Not him. (We're looking for a writer for the last element).

                    Concentrate on the rocks.

                        ... which makes three!

Melinda Maxwell the oboist and composer who wrote Pibroch for solo oboe.
Peter Maxwell Davies, who wrote Stone Litany
Gavin Maxwell the writer and naturalist who wrote The Rocks Remain (a title that always comes to mind when I see the CD shelves in my local HMV shop).

By the way, I was going to use Steve Race's music for the old Maxwell House coffee adverts, but I couldn't find any reference to his having written the jingle - just lots of peas going pop. I'm sure I saw him demonstrate how he'd matched the visual of coffee beans falling onto the jar lid with a pencil on a bongo: does this ring any bells with anyone elsre?

Anyway: an N from mercia who got Stone Litany and The Rocks Remain?

'fraid not. All I remember Steve Race doing was tapping rhythms out on a box on My Music.
how did temperature rising come into that last question, please?

I think whoever mentioned Maxwell first should have a go next - I was nowhere before that
(besides the fact that I'm an abysmal question-setter)

Phew, glad that's over with, Ferney. Nice one. I don't think we would have managed without your assistance

It was Subcontrabass who got there first with Maxwell.

As for the temperature rising, then you'd get 'otter.

                              Shameless.
