Which 'S' links a Scottish ballad, a group of troglodytes and a constant Survivor?

Afraid not. The answer is a name that is not a colour.

Why does "Survivor" have a capital "S" I wonder? Could that be intentional?

Flay: Why indeed? It might well be worth your while investigating.
Caliban: These troglodytes necessarily occur in pairs.

Hmm. Simon Rattle performed Schoenberg's "A Survivor from Warsaw" by running it straight in to Mahler's 2nd.
Rattle wrote a Scottish Ballad Op. 26. Am I getting warm?

Can anyone help with the Trogs?

I think you'll find that the Op. 26 in question was written by Benjamin Britten.
                    Try Survivor on its own.

I thought it odd, but then again maybe he had tried his hand at composing. Who knows? And if not, why not?

I have that very fine double CD of Rattle conducting lesser-known works by Britten. To help you a bit while I tuck into my Black Farmer sausages: You're looking for two performers and one composer who share the same surname.

Eric Burdon, formerly of the Troggs (a '60s beat combo, m'lud) had a solo album called "Survivor", but this doesn't follow the shared surname beginning with S, does it?
