Far too much chatter nowadays. Guilty, m'lud.

The K was: What K links a black roller skater, two moods, and a leisurely American island?

The island was Key Largo. We have major and minor keys. So we need a pop song (hit in 1972) about a roller skater. The black is to do with the singer's name, not race (think pigments). The K is is nice and shiny.
    Pacta sunt servanda !!!

No the chatter is great, it's part of this thread... but interspersed with clear signposts of what's right and what's left to solve is also good!

The penny's just dropped!! It's a tribute to my upbringing (or perhaps just my age, '72 was a bit early for me to be aware of pop music) that I only know the Wurzels' parody...

Now if you'd said 'combine harvester'....!!!!

Brand New Key by Melanie: "I've got a brand new pair of roller-skates..." la-la-la.....

Good question Flay! Damn, I need to find an "L" (got an "M" planned, gonna have to wait for that... )

Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

        Magnificent Cali!

... and Flay: I was nowhere with this puzzle, but it's so "obvious" when all the elements are there. Melanie/"Black": genius!

            Why thank you. But...

Actually, that's the bit I don't get. What is the Melanie - Black thing? Am I being very dense?

Is it all Greek to you? Melanie. Derived from the Greek μελανία (melania), "blackness" and that from μέλας (melas), meaning "dark".

May I join you in your enquiry?

Ah, I see...it's clearly a reference to Melanie Black of the Midland Figure Skating Club. Glad I sorted that out.

There's learnéd!!!! No wonder you are inexorably drawn to learnéd people and their clerks!!!

                      Norfy's answer was funnier though!

OK time for an L? It's probably a bit dull, I've had an L of a day - most notably, the fridge seems to have packed up Why do these things so often happen around Christmas!??!

What is the connecting L between:

                      1) Isolde and Brünhilde
                      2) A rural-sounding saintly Academician
                      3) A favourite musical radio presenter

                      ?

Greek is a ... lacuna in my knowledge. Much happier with Latin derivations. Will you ever speak to me again, vindepays?

Calibs, you could have skipped straight onto the M because it's Christmas (No-L)

                          <<sorry emoticon>>

I hope you can get the fridge sorted. We had bought a turkey crown on Sunday for the Big Dinner but I have just found it in the back of the car. Hopefully it's been cold enough to preserve it - it smells OK!

I'm not sure which is more shameful - that joke or your cavalier attitude to your Christmas lunch! Your turkey may be a trifle... gamey ... or alternatively, there may be a fragrant hint of seasonal Castrol GTX

                              By the way - : then blush then : ( ) is a good substitute for <<sorry>>

I'll store up my M... Maybe if you lot make a compete Horlicks of my L, I'll segue straight on...

But I'm sure you won't... Any ideas?
