No no, Anna's quite right.... We are all pretty much in awe of the sleuthing grey cells of the artist formerly (and appropriately) known as 'hercule'

    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments

Mercia, my love-interest? No, Calabrese and I are just members of a Mutual Admiration Society, he's an expert on Dickens and I make perfect gravy. Together we perform A Christmas Carol for the Orpheans of Chancery Lane and throw them some leftovers. Nothing more than that!

No, of course not, but sometimes your obsession with narrow gauge Hornby train sets .... Please, can I sometimes wear the Station Master's hat and blow the whistle?

Please miss! You haven't seen my carpet yet:

You could play with all of them, except Mallard (out of picture).

<swoon> <thud> I may have to lie down for a while. Gosh! Mallard, what a beauty that was, classic lines, so elegant. Sir Nigel Gresley, locomotives don't get better than this!

Norfy doesn't seem to be about to set a D, so enough of this chit-chat and into the kitchen with me for the foreseeable future.

Agreed. I'll try to get you a picture of Mallard later, but it's a bit difficult at that speed.

Sorry, folks - I posted my answer without really expecting it to be right.
                  'D' coming up very shortly.

Is this the first time we've been served a D notice?

Which 'D' links these three composers:
The first was the son of a violinist with the New York Philharmonic; the second, the son of a pioneer of homeopathic medicine; and the third studied privately with an Australian composer with a Caribbean connection.

The third looks to be Alun Hoddinott, who studied privately with Arthur Benjamin (Jamaican Rhumba). That is as far as I can get.

Alun Hoddinott is indeed one of our three composers.

Is this a clue, Norf, or just the workings of the Christmas sherry?
