    Venus?

I know "Candy" is by Ogden Nash, who collaborated with Kurt Weill (of the "Threepenny Opera") on One Touch of Venus

... but gorgeous youngster on a mountain? = Tannhauser?

Nice one, ferns - well, nice two

Yes to 'Touch of Venus' by Nash/Weill
Yes to 'Tannhaüser': Venusberg = the mountain

The third element relates to the gorgeous youth...

Must be the influence of Sherlock! Terrific re-invention of the classic story, wonderfully performed.

Monday is my away-from-home workday, so I won't have access to this site. I can either do my W when I get in at about five o'clock, or I can pass to someone else and take an X later in penance.

EDIT: Actually, I do have a W ready, so if anyone has a spare letter they've been dying to offer, I'll submit this later?

Not convinced by Sherlock tonight. My major thrill today was Alyn Shipton, responding to me. Now, that's what I call R3 interaction whereas when I turned on R3 this morning, Rob Cowan was saying "and listeners turned off into laybys with tears running down their cheeks and texting me, they were so affected" I have no idea whether this referred to My Call or something by Karl Jenkins, whatever, I felt it absolutely dire for a broadcaster to have to utter words such as that.

No, although I am skilled in such matters ... let ferney let loose a W.

BTW did anyone other than Norfy watch Borgen last night?

I saw Part II, there was no knitwear of note but I loved the subtitles! Danish is the new black.

I started Part I but wasn't gripped. As well as subtitles and the fascination of hearing when Danish sounds exactly like English ("Komm in"), I need chunky knitwear and gruesomely-despatched corpses, I think. Call me shallow.

Shallow, and I wouldn't know a vegetable tian from a timbale de légumes if you whacked me over the head with it.

                              Useless, huh?

Well, not totally useless, your Latin is amusing ........... your knowledge of vegetables is, frankly, abysmal ..... but, for all your faults, erm, oh yes, you are loveable, in a certain way.
