I first started with Klimt's "The Kiss" thought there might be a Z there. Then went back to "The Cricket on the Hearth" of Dickens en there there was a Z, one Riccardo Zandonai (never heard of him btw). He has written many operas amongst which Juliet & Romeo, The Cricket on the Hearth and The Kiss!

well done hedgehog (are you sure you're not a tenrec ? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...eltanrek-a.jpg )

        Zandonai

        Giulietta e Romeo
        Il grillo del focolare
        Il bacio

        very obscure, but hey, it's a Z

shall we amble on to A ?

I am not at all sure what I am mercia! Accent on amble as I have things to do, I'll have a puzzle by early afternoon though.

Your early morning work this morning was amazing, mercia. Good question, too. So annoying I couldn't get a handle on it last night, 5am starts disagree with me so profoundly, unlike you mercs!

And what a fascinating Z, all these composers one's never heard of. Bit depressing!

What A links music at the dentist’s, a Hungarian’s double attempt at this and life as seen from a pram?

Just to say you're not being ignored, I've been mulling this for an hour with no success at all... I've learnt about musical dental drills, dentists' exemption from paying royalties on calming music played in their surgeries; investigated Kodaly and Bartok; thought about the end of Mahler 4.... No "A"s that I can see...

                          Neither Kodaly nor Bartok.

Oh ok then, I'm feeling generous, a clue:

One is film music, one isn't and the other might have been.

is the Hungarian a composer ?
if yes, is his double attempt a double concerto perhaps ?

                              oh, and is A a composer ?
