I prefer to buy from one of the small specialist retailers but I confess that Amazon if usually my first port of call (and sometimes I succumb there and then) but I will usually check out MDT and Presto (after looking at Amazon) and buy from them if their prices aren't very much higher. The only problem is that Amazon deliveries are usually fairly quick when the item is shown as being in stock whereas the smaller retailers often take much longer to deliver - presumably because they don't carry as large a stock and have to order in from the distributor.

I do with that I could order online from Bath Compact Discs. They are always very helpful and pleasant when I pop in there and are the best local classical CD shop and I always feel a little guilty when I am not supporting them.

I usually select 'classical music' from the drop-down depertment menu just by the search box before I do my search. But I agree that Amazon is usually very simple & even when it doesn't come up with what you want first time it usually does after a little fiddling.

OK...how about this one. Rather enjoyed this from Fischer-Diskau this morning..

Gustav Mahler — Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekomen
Performer: Dietrich Fischer-Diskau (baritone) Performer: Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra Performer: Rafael Kubelik (conductor)
        DG 00289 477 9375, Tr. 13

so decided to have one more go at 'Hunt the CD'...a game for players of all ages..on Amazon. So trying the Advanced Search...where to start? Artist? Fischer-Diskau? Mmmm...too many. Add title Ruckert...maybe that will trim things down...not much. I won't bore you with all the permutations I tried....I got this one

        and I got this one

The latter is easier to determine that it isn't the one I am after by peering myopically at the image for the CD number. However that doesn't work for the first one since no indication of CD number...well done, Amazon. Luckily they publish the list of tracks and a bit of ferreting reveals that this has Bohm and not Kubelik conducting and so it isn't this one.

        The search goes on ....

EDIT: maybe it is this one

even though Amazon have it listed as a Decca release

I think you were trying to do it the hard way. I've just put '4779375' into the first Amazon search box, with the Classical Music drop-down, and it's come up with just one result, which is what you require:

Indeed. Selecting the Classical Music drop down and entering Fischer-Dieskau Mahler finds it first time.

Some people do seem to enjoy making life hard for themselves.
