There are new arrests - 5 journalists from The Sun, and 3 people from respectively the MoD, Armed Forces and Police.
Fears are mounting over the future of The Sun newspaper after more of the tabloid's journalists were arrested by police investigating alleged corruption.

Rupe is flying in soon, apparently to calm fears that he might be planning to close the Sun

All but one of Sun employees are very senior journalists, and yet neither Brooks nor Murdoch Jnr knew anything about what was going on. Call me cynical but I find that beggars belief.

I note that the headline says that there are 'fears' over the future of the Sun. My only 'fear' is that it might survive - it would be of great benefit to British culture if it disappeared.

I don't want to seem ungrateful, Mr GG, but if you're offering I'd rather have a :bubbly:

It's a sad commentary on "British culture" that the Sun has been a "soaraway success" for so long. If enough people want such a product, someone will produce it, whether it's Murdoch or not doesn't matter. Isn't the Daily Star published by a pornographer? I'm sure Dirty Des would be glad to take over from the Dirty Digger if the Sun went under.

Indeed, but it would be a case of one down, more to follow.

Well, to YOUR rather narrow definition of culture, Floozie. Culture is not just Opera, and Classical Music, Theatre and Literature. Culture includes football, Soap Operas, and indeed tabloid newpapers such as The Sun, which is read by millions of the lower classes every day. And yet you would deny these simple peasant folk :erm: their innocent enjoyment out of some misplaced sense of intellectual superiority.

And even if The Sun were to go under- which I'm quite certain it won't- you can guarantee that something very similar would quickly take its place. But you probably wouldn't object to that, would you, unless it was another Murdoch paper, in which case no doubt you'd be up on your high horse quicker than I could say "snobbery".

I think it's the Daily Depress that's owned by that Desmond Whatsisface.

                            Wikipedia tells us.....
