I'm another refugee from Radio 3

Hello everyone, I used to be a member here, then I lost touch, new computers and all that but, I'm back! I need to escape the witterings of Radio 3. Thank you to the person here, who mentioned France Musique, I am currently giving it a test drive.

Allow me to repeat a post elsewhere, in case you find it more quickly here.

Err... Hello, Bendigedig, and welcome back!

While you're at it, give KUSC Classical a go. It seems to be getting better and better.

Their night show (midnight on) is our breakfast (8am on) and here's a typical playlist:

You can listen via the website: http://www.classicalkusc.org/stream/...utmk=232529180

        or using various players: http://www.kusc.org/listenonline/index.aspx

and in particular, as it says a little way down on that page, it's one of the pre-set classical radio stations on iTunes, which means for me that I can listen via an Apple Airport Express on the big HiFi here
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Havent listened to KUSC in a little while, but it is a good option.

Also good for lovers of C20 /21 music:

Live365 is the easiest and least expensive way to create a legal internet radio station as well as the best place to discover and listen to thousands of free stations from every genre of music and talk.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

I used to like the music on RadioIO (Classical) - http://www.radioio.com/channels/classical/classical/ One problem with some of the available Internet radio stations is that the sound quality may not be up to the best which is now possible. Another problem is that if the sound quality is high, then the streaming load will probably only work well for those who have unlimited download access, as otherwise additional charges might be incurred, and unwelcome.

There are quite a lot of worthwhile Internet stations, such as this one from Belgium - http://www.rtbf.be/musiq3/ and the Swedish stations P2 - http://sverigesradio.se/sida/tabla.aspx?programid=2562 plus similar ones from Norway and Denmark.

            There is always Radio 4 - http://www.radio4.nl/ !

There are quite a few good ones but the only one I use on daily basis is RAI5 (via satellite and played through amp ) because it just plays and announces the music - all classical. France Musique has talk and non-classical. Bayern Klassik has talk, weather, news flashes and traffic updates. Dutch Radio 4 has phone-ins (eg right now when I just tuned in.)

I agree with your observations. Rai5 is my usual first choice, Bayern second, though I, too, always seem to hit the news slot!

Other American ones I use are WCPE in North Carolina and WGBH in Boston.

There is so much on this site, forgive me if I miss something!

We've done Internet stations before - see http://www.for3.org/forums/showthrea...light=classica and before that. I though there was a recommended Spanish station, called something like Radio Classica, but when I looked yesterday I found an Italian one - http://www.radioclassica.fm/ and there also appears to be what may be a Portugese one - http://www.radioclassica.com.br/

I've no idea if these are any good. I'm sorry to hear about the r4 phone ins - but I believe the concerts on r4 nl are rather good.
