I must confess that tyre noise never enters my thoughts when choosing tyres as I prefer grip and good braking distances! The noise from the TD5 engine masks any tyre noise, in any case !!

My current car, a Focus II Zetec Estate, has by far the worst motorway road noise of any car I have owned in decades. It is truly dreadful. Therefore tyre noise is something I am very conscious of. Recently I bought a pair of Dunlop Sport Bluresponse tyres and they do seem to have tamed the road noise to some extent, as well as easing the hard ride. They also are reported to have good grip and good stopping distances. Having said that the road noise is a design fault of the car and there is only so much that "quiet" tyres can do.
