I've noticed that my mail washer automatically spams any 'bounce' checking emails - these seem to include some mechanism that checks you have opened the email - for example one travel company's regular emails are accepted but every so often the same company sends a 'bounce' via a bulk mailer, possibly to check on addresses or maybe too big to go thru their usual mail system - completely wasted as such is auto spammed by my mail washer - the local council have started to do the same - retrieved one + realised it was just a 'painted turd', nothing to say but pretty printed to justify spending money, subsequent ones were left as spam

      I've noticed two things:

      1. Quite a number of genuine emails end up in the Spam folder - this is a nuiisance, and people wonder why one doesn't reply.

      2. Then there are these "I forgot to send you this Photo ...." kind of email - ostensibly from a friend. These present a problem. If you are pretty sure they're not genuine, you can bin them straight away without opening them at all. Maybe contact your friend directly to ask if they sent an email recently. Otherwise you can live dangerously and open them, and then DO NOT click on any link inside - check the email id which will almost certainly show "name of your friend" but when hovered over show an email address you've never seen before, probably from a foreign country.

Clicking on the link - even if apparently only an image - may result in all sorts of unwanted actions - or "simply" expose you to porn which you probably still didn't want.
That very thing happened to me a few weeks ago. I was assuming my friend might have changed his email address and was so damn sure the message was genuine I clicked on the lnk. Luckily my computer rejected it! <phew!>

Can you not display the actual email address that it's been sent from ? My Mac is setup that way.

When did this happen? What is the NAS?
