    Query re Prom 45

    Hi Everyone,
Just discovered this forum after a few years of lamenting the loss of the R3 messageboards...This has made what was already a great Friday (FNOP) even better!!!

Quick question, in Prom 45 ,which appeals to me, do we know which of Joan Tower's 5 fanfares Marin Alsop is conducting?

    Cheers
    Pete

Hello parkepr - and welcome .

A quick answer to your question: Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman (3 mins)

A thread devoted to Prom 45 will be posted in due course.

Good to see a new recruit on board!

Ah.... I was going to ask what FNOP meant (I was thinking along POETS lines - he said, eyeing the clock - or SWALK or even (K)NORWICH )...

... but the penny dropped as I was typing.
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Cheers Folks, glad to be here... however Joan Tower has composed 5 Fanfares for the Uncommon Women (I've just downloaded Marin Alsop's Colorado Symphony recordings) I was just wondering which one will be performed... maybe it'll be a surprise!!
However just bought one of the few remaining stalls tickets for it... definitely in Proms mood now!!!!

Love your thinking french frank and it does filter out Numbers 3 & 4 however on Marin Alsop's recordings she has No.1 clocking in at 02:41, No.2 clocking in at 03:23 (another possible contender!) and No.5 clocking at a straight 5 mins...

                  QED...

Still, rely on nothing: it could turn out to be the Copland if some mischievous person switches the music!

No clue officially, but if I had to guess, it would probably be #1 of the 5.

As long as there are no unannounced trips to EGYPT!!!

thanks all, just had a response from @bbcproms via twitter and it'll be No.1... makes sense as that is similar to the Copland (which precedes it) in orchestration. Thanks for the all the replies folks and enjoy the season!
