thanks very much for the introduction to 'the spy from cairo' and the prog link to robert wyatt jc!

i liked friday's show and i heard A9 teamsaint, but my 'hot recommendation' would be that personally i loved the indian? violins and percusssion on sunday's world roots..... phewee i must remember to listen again, and again...

    I don't really spotify...time seems so short,

it's perhaps a sensible move teamsaint! i think jc and co may well spend far too much time enjoying themselves on spotty, making lists, eating, chatting, dancing and other shamanistic rituals, and then they're joined by doctor lucy and james parkin, and they all go off and do this for weeks at a time http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frWZx6iRQ9c they type and post wee messages to the forum using an ancient nasal whistle that they share..... amazing though it may initially seem.

To summarise, we are quite relaxed about music on this sub forum

Apart from an insistence that we maintain the r3 connection...

FT played a good track by him last night, though I was trying to work out who he was 'cos he sounded like someone else, G.

Told you he got everywhere - most of the threads on here are now about him...

Not interested in cars, but AK retains this abiding habit of drawing you in even in this R4 programme about old microcars. Give him a blinkin' slot beeb...... somewhere! The bit about the Mark G Bond (I think!) carrying a drumkit was a laugh. Nought to 60....never!

About that cross posting, as a reminder we do usually keep this thread focussed on music... Anyway you don't need to worry, AK IS back on the Beeb & has been for a while

Thanks Global...slightly closer to home, 6 are celebrating a bit of Velvet Underground associated material 'cos it's 45 years since the Banana apparently....anyway John Cale is doing First Time today at noon....I've often found him to be an interesting interviewee.

At least Mr Cale's voice hasn't deteriorated with age like so many of his contemporaries - still pleasingly non-existent like it always was.
You'll no doubt know about this too

for fans of thistle and shamrock (huh?), their version of Oilrig, Fiona Ritchie presents...

(frankly the episode I listened to was a bit dull, wallpaper muzak only - but I'll give it more than one chance)

For those who care about such things, there is an NPR app too.

We loyal r3 types will be keenly anticipating Oilrig on
World On 3, Friday 2 November, 11.00pm-1.00am, BBC RADIO 3
A studio session with Scottish singer-songwriter Karine Polwart. According to the blurb:
Karine formed her first band at the age of 10, known as KP And The Minichips. She completed a degree in politics and philosophy, and this has always been reflected in her songwriting. Her new album, Traces, includes songs about the Occupy movement outside St Paul's Catherdral, as well as Donald Trump's controversial golf club development in Aberdeenshire. It also features a warm tribute to a late neighbour, and a song about the mixed emotions on leaving a family home.

Jarvis is doing the Velvets too, Global, and he has his usual unusual take on it.

...and I'm looking forward to hearing Oilrig and Karine together, though the clocks'll've changed by then.

John, you'll know the answer to this. Why are there virtually no photos of KP where her teeth are visible?
                                It's an important question !
